A little over a month ago, I returned from my three months of student teaching in China. What an great impact it has had on my life! Now that I am back in the flow of life in America, I have decided to continue blogging on this blog. I went round and round about quitting or starting a completely different blog, but here I am again.
Lots has changed since returning to China, some of which being graduation and my newly acquired job. Yes, I have a real, career job where I will be making a salary, and I will be doing the most wonderful thing ever, teaching! All that I have dreamed of...my own classroom...my own students...my own way of doing things. Alas! I will be teaching 4th grade at Calvary Christian School. I'm sure many of you are thinking, hmm..didn't she grow up in that school? Well, as a matter of fact, I did, and I am returning there. Many think it's great and some think I'm crazy for staying in the "Calvary Bubble" as they say, but my decision was not a spur-of-the-moment, do-what-the-crowd-says decision. I prayed A LOT about it and sought the Lord's guidance, and He led me through these open doors. It was funny how God used little things along the way to confirm in my mind that this was the right decision. I am very excited (and nervous) about this opportunity I have to teach at a Christian school, educate students from a biblical standpoint, and work with a great faculty and staff! Come visit me sometime during the school year!
Amongst these changes is one that I have brought about and received many comments from. haha I decided to be called "Jen" now instead of "Jenny." Is that bad? This was not a split-second decision either. (Just for the record, I am NOT a quick decision maker.) I have been wanting to be called Jen for a few years now, but at that time, I was in the midst of college...not a prime time for name changing. Well, now that I am in a new phase of life, beginning my career, why not start off fresh? I mainly wanted to be called "Jen" for the professional side of things, but it is fun to now be know as "Jen;" I think it sounds older, maybe more professional, and it's shorter. Many who have always known my as "Jenny" can't get past that. I appreciate those who at least try to call me "Jen," but it will be okay if you call me "Jenny" every once and awhile. Side note: I got a new summer job last summer, and since no one knew me before hand, I had them call me "Jen." It's fun, it's new, and it's still my name, just a variation. I still have to get used to it myself, but I don't think it's a bad change.
As I have been looking for teaching ideas on many blogs, I have found so many neat ideas! I may start posting some on here just to keep all of them organized and in one place! Plus, it will benefit other teachers who are looking for new ideas!
